Heritage Grocers Group has appointed Adrian Castañeda as its new Chief Logistics Officer, expanding the responsibilities of an executive who has spent more than 18 years with the Hispanic and ethnic food retailer.

The appointment was announced in an August 26 press release. In his new position, Castañeda will be responsible for leading the company’s transportation, distribution and broader supply chain operations.

His new role marks another step in a long career with the organization. Before taking the position of Chief Logistics Officer, Castañeda served as a warehouse manager for Cardenas Markets, one of the grocery brands operated by Heritage Grocers Group. He had also held the position of Senior Vice President of Supply Chain at Heritage Grocers Group before moving into his latest leadership role.

Castañeda previously reflected on his career progression in a July LinkedIn post, highlighting the different responsibilities and challenges that helped shape his approach to leadership.

“Each role brought new challenges, valuable lessons, and opportunities to become better leader,” Castañeda said. He also credited the leaders he worked with throughout his career for sharing their knowledge and contributing to the development of his leadership style.

Earlier in his career, Castañeda worked in Mexico, where he held positions as a supply chain analyst and project lead.

His appointment comes alongside several other leadership changes at Heritage Grocers Group. Vince Gambino has been named Chief Merchandising Officer and will be responsible for product assortment, sourcing and vendor partnerships.

Adam Salgado has also been appointed Chief Experience Officer. His responsibilities will include omnichannel initiatives, marketing and customer engagement strategies.

With Castañeda now heading logistics, Heritage Grocers Group is placing an experienced internal executive at the helm of transportation, distribution and supply chain activities across its organization.
