INTERCARGO, the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners, is taking bold steps to elevate industry standards by expanding its Quality Panel. This strategic move aims to improve safety, transparency, and efficiency in the bulk carrier sector while fostering stronger global partnerships.

Regional Divisions for Greater Impact

Starting in January 2025, the Quality Panel will operate under a new regional structure:

  • Western Division:
    • Chair: Metaxia Psalti (Neda Maritime)
    • Vice-Chair: Tasos Karlis (Virono)
  • Eastern Division:
    • Chair: Debashis Sen (Swire Bulk)
    • Vice-Chair: Capt. Uttam Kumar Jaiswal (Pacific Basin)

This reorganization allows INTERCARGO to engage more effectively with its worldwide membership, accommodating different time zones and streamlining communication. It also reinforces INTERCARGO’s commitment to global collaboration by bringing together leading figures from the maritime sector.

Collaborating with RightShip for Industry Advancement

In a recent meeting with RightShip, INTERCARGO addressed key concerns raised by its members and identified new pathways for innovation. By working closely with RightShip, INTERCARGO aims to improve ship vetting processes, enhance regulatory compliance, and establish more efficient ship-port interfaces. This collaboration underscores INTERCARGO’s proactive approach to solving complex industry challenges.

Driving Maritime Excellence

Capt. Uttam Kumar Jaiswal, Vice-Chairman of INTERCARGO, stated:
“By strengthening sector partnerships and expanding our global reach, we’re better positioned to tackle critical challenges and advance maritime excellence. The Quality Panel expansion reflects our dedication to supporting members and driving sustainable improvements.”

Welcoming New Members

INTERCARGO invites dry cargo shipowners, operators, and managers to join its initiatives. By participating in meetings, working groups, and panel discussions, members can contribute to building a safer, more efficient, and environmentally conscious dry bulk shipping industry.

Looking Ahead

The expansion of INTERCARGO’s Quality Panel signals a new chapter for the organization. By leveraging its members’ expertise and strengthening international partnerships, INTERCARGO is setting a higher benchmark for safety, efficiency, and sustainability in the dry bulk shipping sector.
