LATAM Cargo has entered into a new sustainability partnership with freight forwarder Quick Cargo Service to introduce Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) into transatlantic cargo operations.
The initiative will focus on flights between Frankfurt and São Paulo during the 2025–2026 winter season, running from late October through March.
In total, the partners will deploy 24,000 litres of SAF under a “book and claim” system, allowing the environmental benefits to be allocated specifically to Quick Cargo Service’s operations.
The companies estimate that the programme will reduce lifecycle emissions by approximately 55.8 metric tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. Of this, around 46 tonnes are directly linked to flight emissions, representing close to 7% of total emissions generated during the 21-week operational period.
The SAF used is produced from alternative feedstocks, including animal fats.
Cristina Oñate, vice president of sustainability and product at LATAM Cargo Group, stressed that decarbonisation in air cargo cannot be achieved in isolation.
She said collaboration with customers is essential to drive measurable change and accelerate the transition toward lower-carbon logistics.
Patrick Eberhard, head of product management LATAM at Quick Cargo Service, echoed this view, highlighting the importance of cross-industry cooperation in reducing emissions and building a more sustainable air cargo ecosystem.
The agreement forms part of LATAM Cargo’s broader strategy to offer solutions that allow customers to integrate climate management into their logistics operations.
It follows a similar SAF initiative announced in March, focused on reducing emissions linked to salmon shipments between Chile and the United States.
