MSC Air Cargo has officially opened its station at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG), taking another step in its strategy to expand across the Asia-Pacific region.
The carrier said Pudong plays a vital role in global trade flows, and that adding the airport to its operational map will enhance its ability to serve customers on important intercontinental routes linking Europe and Asia.
The move also builds on partnerships announced last year with Chinese parcel giant SF Express and Shanghai Airport Authority Logistics Development Co. (AVINEX). Those agreements were designed to support the development of Shanghai Pudong as a core gateway within MSC Air Cargo’s Asia-Pacific network.
MSC Air Cargo already works with SF Express on the Asia-Europe trade lane, and earlier this year the airline also launched scheduled services on the Milan Malpensa–Shanghai Pudong route.
Commenting on the launch, Jannie Davel, chief executive of MSC Air Cargo, said the new Shanghai gateway represents a cornerstone of the company’s Asia-Pacific corridor and reflects a long-term commitment to the region.
He added that the station also demonstrates MSC Air Cargo’s intention to work closely with local partners in order to build a sustainable and forward-looking platform.
Launched in late 2022, MSC Air Cargo operates an expanding fleet of Boeing 777-200 Freighters.
Earlier this year, the airline took delivery of its third Italian-registered Boeing 777-200F, which is being used to broaden coverage in Italy beyond Milan Malpensa (MXP) to include Rome Fiumicino (FCO). These gateways are connected with Hong Kong (HKG), Shanghai Pudong (PVG) and the newly added Ezhou Huahu (EHU).
In addition to the three 777-200Fs flown under the carrier’s European AOC, Atlas Air also operates four 777Fs for MSC Air Cargo under a long-term ACMI agreement covering aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance.
