A National Airlines Boeing 747 cargo plane is in Nepal on a humanitarian mission, bringing badly needed relief supplies from Dubai to Kathmandu to help flood-ravaged communities. The cargo was emergency supplies, emergency equipment and other necessities for the victims. “By flying in these supplies directly into Kathmandu we are bringing much needed aid closer to the flood affected people.” The United Arab Emirates’ flight is part of a broader humanitarian effort. The UAE Government announced $10m worth of humanitarian assistance to help communities across Nepal affected by the floods under the directives of His Highness President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The operation shows the use of air cargo in emergency response. Air cargo can be a quick and reliable way of getting aid to the affected areas where there is an urgent need for essential supplies when disaster strikes and the infrastructure is damaged. The mission demonstrated National Airlines’ commitment to the humanitarian efforts of the UAE and its ability to swiftly provide crucial support to vulnerable communities. The Boeing 747 is the perfect example of a carrier’s ability to use its cargo capacity to support commercial operations and large-scale humanitarian relief efforts, where speed and capacity are of the utmost importance.
