Chinese port of Qingdao accelerates its rise. A ceremony marked the launch of a container yard jointly operated by Shandong Port and MSC, as well as an impressive milestone: MSC traffic at the Qianwan terminal exceeded 3 million TEU. The port authorities see it as a strong signal for regional competitiveness and the strengthening of a major hub in Northeast Asia.
MSC, now firmly established on site, operates 17 routes covering key markets, including the East Coast of the United States, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The activity is supported by a regular flow of calls, with a handling capacity per voyage announced at over 20,000 TEU, which confirms Qingdao’s strategic importance in the group’s maritime network.
The challenge is clear: to gain in fluidity, to densify connectivity between regional lines and transoceanic links, and to improve the level of supply chain service. The port also indicates wanting to capitalize on regional commercial dynamics (initiatives and agreements of the corridor/partnership type) in order to optimize networks and associated logistical services.
