TS Lines has placed a new order for four 2,900 TEU container vessels at Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding, reinforcing its strategy of increasing fleet ownership and reducing reliance on chartered tonnage.
All four vessels are scheduled for delivery by May 2029.
This latest contract marks the second agreement between the two parties within six months. In November 2025, TS Lines had already ordered two firm vessels of the same type, along with two optional units, for delivery in mid-2028.
With the new order, TS Lines’ total number of 2,900 TEU vessels under construction at Mawei rises to six, representing a combined investment of approximately $252.9 million.
The vessels will feature a “Chittagongmax” wide-body design, measuring 185.99 meters in length, with a beam of 35.20 meters and a loaded draft of 11 meters, and a deadweight of around 36,380 tons.
They will be equipped with an S-Bow hull design to reduce wave resistance and improve fuel efficiency, with a strong focus on economic performance and environmental sustainability.
The ships are expected to be deployed primarily on South Asian routes, including services to Bangladesh.
TS Lines said increasing its share of owned vessels is a key strategic objective, aimed at improving cost efficiency, reducing exposure to charter market volatility, and strengthening long-term competitiveness.
Currently ranked 20th globally, the company operates a fleet of 40 vessels, of which 36 are owned and only 4 are chartered, reflecting a notably high ownership ratio.
