Trainspotters line up for a photo of the new @CSX 250th ...CSX has unveiled two commemorative locomotives in Washington, D.C., as part of celebrations leading up to the 250th anniversary of the United States, using the occasion to highlight its unique role as the only Class I freight railroad operating in the nation’s capital.

The Jacksonville-based railway company brought its “All Aboard for America 250” business special into Washington Union Station, marking the first public appearance of locomotives No. 2026 and No. 250, both specially painted to honour the upcoming national milestone.

The event celebrated not only the country’s history but also CSX’s long-standing presence in Washington and its contribution to the U.S. freight rail network.

“We’re proud to be the only Class I freight railroad serving Washington, D.C., and honoured to take part in this historic celebration,” said Steve Angel, President and CEO of CSX. He also recognised the company’s employees for the work they carry out every day to keep goods moving across the country.

The commemorative locomotives were painted at CSX’s Waycross, Georgia, facility before making their debut journey to the capital. The inaugural trip was operated by engineer J.R. Walker and conductor C.A. Bydume.

The special locomotives are expected to appear at additional events throughout the America 250 celebrations, serving as a travelling tribute to both the country’s history and the vital role freight rail continues to play in supporting the U.S. economy.
