A container vessel has narrowly avoided damage after two projectiles landed in close proximity while sailing 22 nautical miles off Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia, according to UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The vessel involved has been identified as the Liberia-flagged Express Rome, with all crew members reported safe.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and follows earlier claims by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) regarding attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz—although those claims remain unverified.
The Express Rome, owned by Greek operator Danaos and operated by Sea Lead Shipping, had been operating on routes linking the Middle East, Gulf, and Asia.
Security analysts note that the incident reflects ongoing risks to commercial shipping in the region, particularly as geopolitical tensions continue to impact maritime corridors.
