Nippon Express and Nikon have renewed their partnership on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), signing a new agreement for air cargo transport services aimed at reducing the optics manufacturer’s Scope 3 carbon emissions.
This is the second year in a row that the two companies have signed a SAF-related agreement. The arrangement forms part of Nippon Express’ role as a cargo agent within the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s project promoting SAF use in air cargo transport to support corporate Scope 3 compliance.
Under the previous agreement, which covered shipments from May to December 2025, Nippon Express used its NX-GREEN SAF Program to issue carbon reduction certificates corresponding to the amount of SAF used for cargo shipments arranged on Nikon’s behalf.
The renewed collaboration aligns with Nikon’s broader environmental strategy, which targets carbon reductions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3. Nippon Express Group has also set its own 2030 climate goals, including a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions versus 2013 levels, and a 25% reduction in Scope 3 emissions compared with 2022.
Other companies participating with Nippon Express in the Tokyo SAF initiative include Honda.
