Amazon has launched Amazon Supply Chain Services, opening a broad logistics portfolio to any business.
The offer combines freight transportation, parcel shipping, distribution and fulfillment, using Amazon’s network of US fulfillment centers, trailers, intermodal containers and aircraft.
The services include Amazon Air Cargo, Amazon Global Logistics, Amazon Freight, Amazon Shipping, Amazon Warehousing and Distribution, and Multichannel Fulfillment.
Amazon Air Cargo offers regional delivery using more than 100 aircraft and over 250 daily flights, along with international charter services.
Amazon Global Logistics supports inbound shipping from China into Amazon’s fulfillment network in the US, UK, EU and Japan, as well as ocean freight from Vietnam to the US.
Amazon Freight includes intermodal, less-than-truckload and truckload services, supported by more than 24,000 owned containers and over 80,000 trailers.
Amazon Shipping offers two-to-five-day ground parcel delivery across the contiguous US.
Industry experts say the launch will not immediately replace FedEx, UPS or other logistics majors, but it creates a powerful bundled offer that could reshape competition over time.
Amazon is already serving companies including 3M, Procter & Gamble, Lands’ End and American Eagle Outfitters through parts of the service.
Experts said Amazon Shipping could pressure parcel providers on pricing, especially alternative carriers focused mainly on low-cost delivery.
However, questions remain around capacity allocation, particularly between goods sold on Amazon’s own marketplace and products handled for external logistics customers, especially during peak season.
