Wood has secured a new offshore engineering contract linked to QatarEnergy’s Bul Hanine EPIC project offshore Qatar.
The contract was awarded by China Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC), with Wood set to deliver a detailed design scope focused on optimising the field’s complex offshore pipeline infrastructure.
As part of the project, Wood will support COOEC in developing engineering solutions designed to enhance production capacity while extending the operational lifespan of the ageing offshore asset.
The company’s scope includes the design of 25 offshore pipelines, with particular attention placed on ensuring safe interactions between new and existing infrastructure. Wood will also manage thermal expansion challenges to maintain the long-term integrity and safety of the pipeline network.
In addition, the engineering group will carry out crossing analysis work for 15 umbilicals and two offshore power cables connected to the project.
The latest award further strengthens Wood’s long-standing involvement in the Bul Hanine field development. The company had previously completed both pre-FEED and FEED studies directly for QatarEnergy during earlier stages of the programme.
According to Gerry Traynor, president for Middle East, Africa and the Caspian at Wood, the partnership between Wood and COOEC combines complementary technical expertise that will help support QatarEnergy’s objective of extending field life, increasing production capacity and improving output from key mature offshore assets.
The project highlights Qatar’s continued investment in maximising the performance of existing offshore energy infrastructure as part of its broader long-term production strategy.
