Schneider National has announced a new round of leadership appointments as the company moves forward with its previously announced executive succession plan.
The changes take effect Wednesday, when current President and CEO Mark Rourke steps into the role of Executive Chairman of the Board. He will be succeeded by Jim Filter, who has spent 27 years with Schneider and most recently served as Executive Vice President and President of Transportation and Logistics.
Alongside the CEO transition, Schneider has reshuffled several senior leadership positions across its business units.
Michael Baumgardt has been appointed Executive Vice President of Intermodal and Logistics. A Schneider employee since 2001, Baumgardt most recently led the company’s intermodal business and will now oversee two divisions that generated a combined US$2.4 billion in revenue over the past year.
The company’s truckload division, which generated US$2.5 billion in revenue during the same period, will now be led by Steve Wells. Wells joined Schneider through its acquisition of Cowan Systems and has spent nearly three decades with the company, including several years as Chief Operating Officer.
Schneider has also promoted Angela Prill to Senior Vice President of Intermodal Operations. She has been with the company for 16 years and most recently oversaw intermodal network management and operations.
Commenting on the changes, incoming CEO Jim Filter said the new leadership structure is designed to keep Schneider flexible, strengthen customer relationships and position the company for future growth while improving operational efficiency.
The company also confirmed that, as part of the succession plan, former Chairman James Welch will become Lead Independent Director of the board. Last week, Schneider also appointed Austin Ramirez, Chief Executive Officer of manufacturing company Husco, to its board of directors.
