TC Energy Corp. has officially placed two new natural gas infrastructure projects into service in western Alberta, strengthening the capacity of its NGTL System and supporting growing demand for natural gas transportation across the region.
The Calgary-based company invested a combined $500 million in the Valhalla North and Berland River projects, both of which are now fully operational.
The projects form part of TC Energy’s extensive NGTL System, the natural gas pipeline network that transports gas throughout Alberta and British Columbia.
The Valhalla North project consists of a 33-kilometre pipeline located northwest of Grande Prairie, Alberta. The Berland River project is a 30-megawatt electric-powered compressor station situated northwest of Edson, Alberta.
Together, the two facilities increase the NGTL System’s transportation capacity by approximately 400 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, helping accommodate continued production growth in western Canada.
TC Energy also highlighted the economic benefits generated during construction. Local Indigenous businesses were awarded over $24 million in contracts and peak construction activity provided employment for about 775 workers.
Both projects are now operational and TC Energy continues to expand the capacity and reliability of its natural gas transportation network, further emphasizing the important contribution of the NGTL System in connecting western Canadian natural gas production with key markets.
