Private equity firm Trident Management is creating a bigger regional courier platform by combining smaller delivery companies into a network to give shippers more density and reach and an alternative to the big, established parcel carriers.
Last week, Priority Courier Experts (PCE), a Trident-backed courier company serving B2B customers in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro and the upper Midwest, announced the acquisition of Priority Dispatch Inc., Diamond Expedited and Atlanta-based Inpax Shipping Solutions.
Priority Dispatch and Diamond Expedited are Midwest based providers of same day courier and box-truck freight services with a strong focus on the healthcare and e-commerce sectors. Priority Dispatch and Diamond Expedited started in the greater Chicago market in 1995, founded in Cincinnati in 1973.
The companies were purchased from the same individual and together serve diverse markets including Columbus, Cleveland, Dayton and Toledo, Ohio, Indianapolis, Detroit and Milwaukee. They have 43 employees and use more than 500 independent-contractor drivers to make a combined 250,000 deliveries a year.
Priority Courier Experts expands greatly in the South with Inpax Shipping Solutions. The Atlanta-based company serves seven markets including Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina, as well as Tennessee, South Carolina and Florida.
Inpax has 75 employees and more than 335 owner operators and processes more than 400,000 orders a year. In addition to the e-commerce pickup and delivery services, the company also offers local and regional truck brokerage and tractor-trailer freight services.
The latest deals come after a previous expansion of PCE. Priority Courier Experts bought Indianapolis-based Now Courier in December 2024.
Now, together Priority Courier Experts ship over 1 million pieces a year. For context, that’s roughly the amount of throughput FedEx does in about 90 minutes a day.
The acquisitions greatly increase PCE’s presence in the Midwest and also mark its first foray into the South. Meanwhile, the purchased companies benefit from a larger network and other resources that could spur growth.
Healthcare logistics are especially attractive within such a strategy, as the sector typically commands premium rates. Also, healthcare customers tend to be loyal to logistics providers that can consistently meet stringent on-time delivery and product integrity requirements throughout the transportation process.
Since Trident’s acquisition of Priority Express Couriers in August 2023, the company has partnered with Bluejay Capital, an investment firm focused on transportation and logistics, to provide oversight of the company’s operations.
“Inpax is precisely the kind of well-run, founder-led business we seek to add to the PCE platform. “The company’s commercial and parcel strength across the Southeast immediately expands what PCE can provide,” Bluejay Capital Principal Garrett Anacker said in a news release.
New York-based Trident Management concentrates on acquiring small businesses in the U.S. within three core sectors: healthcare, consumer and industrials. The firm’s primary investments are in successful family owned companies.
Deal activity in the regional courier sector has been relatively limited in recent years, but the industry’s highly fragmented structure and mounting pressure on companies to achieve competitive scale are creating the conditions for consolidation, says Alberto del Pilar, managing director at Butcher Joseph & Co., a boutique investment firm that advises founder-, family- and employee-owned businesses.
There has already been some notable consolidation in the sector. St. Louis-based Associated Couriers was acquired in 2025 by Life Couriers, an expedited logistics company specializing in healthcare based in Munich, Germany. JLL Partners, a New York-based private equity firm, bought Life Couriers this month.
The buyer universe for a well-run regional courier is expanding fast, and founder-owned operators in target geographies are likely getting inbound calls as we speak. “There just hasn’t been” a headline deal yet, del Pilar said in an email.
Why It Matters
The regional express courier market remains highly fragmented, leaving room for further consolidation. As investors, business owners and competitors monitor the sector, Priority Courier Experts’ latest acquisitions highlight how private equity-backed platforms can use regional scale to expand coverage, strengthen operational resources and compete more effectively in a market increasingly focused on density and service capabilities.
