TruckSmarter is shutting down its driver-facing Dispatch application this Friday after the company confirmed that it is being acquired. The name of the acquiring company has not been disclosed.
The closure will bring an end to Dispatch, an AI-powered, chat-based platform designed to help truck drivers find and book freight without having to navigate traditional load boards.
Through the platform, drivers could ask questions to identify available loads, while AI agents handled the bidding and booking process. TruckSmarter says more than 500,000 carriers use its platform, which also includes a free load board.
The shutdown will also affect drivers with active Dispatch subscriptions. Automated email responses from TruckSmarter said those subscriptions will be canceled Friday. Customers who paid invoices within the previous 30 days are expected to receive refunds within seven business days following cancellation.
The company has not identified the buyer behind the acquisition.
A statement from Dan Kao, TruckSmarter’s co-founder and CEO, is now displayed within the Dispatch application. Trucking organizations and drivers have also shared the statement across social media.
“Thank you for trusting TruckSmarter and allowing us to be part of your business over the past five years,” Kao said. “We’re deeply grateful to everyone who used our products, shared feedback, and supported us along the way.”
The shutdown comes after TruckSmarter had already reshaped its business strategy. Last year, the company sold its factoring and banking unit to OTR Solutions as part of a move to concentrate exclusively on Dispatch and load board services.
However, OTR Solutions did not acquire the rest of TruckSmarter, an OTR Solutions representative told FreightWaves.
TruckSmarter is backed by private equity and raised $16 million in September 2025. At the time, the company said the funding would be used to “accelerate growth and product innovation.” The fundraising announcement also coincided with the launch of Dispatch.
A significant change for carriers
The disappearance of Dispatch will remove a tool that drivers have been using to streamline the process of bidding on and booking freight without relying on conventional load boards.
For carriers accustomed to the platform, the shutdown means finding alternative solutions to manage freight searches, bidding and bookings, potentially forcing users to adjust their workflows with little time before the service ends.
