Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) is taking a further step towards embedding sustainability into its future operations by partnering with EcoVadis to carry out independent assessments across its physical footprint and supply chain.
The initiative comes as efforts to reopen the airport continue to gather pace, with the airport’s leadership team placing particular emphasis on people, place and planet as it prepares for the next stage of its development.
Under the partnership, EcoVadis will assess sustainability practices across DSA’s supply chain against a range of environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria. The assessments will cover areas including environmental impact, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement.
The programme will also extend to aviation service providers operating at the airport, including ground handling and security companies. The aim is to help ensure that suppliers and onsite service providers meet appropriate environmental, social and workforce standards.
Steve Allcoat, Head of Assets, Capital & Engineering at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said the initiative would play an important role in establishing the airport as a leader in sustainable aviation in the UK.
“This work will help to underpin us as a genuine leader in the UK aviation industry through its rigorous sustainability-led approach to supply chain management and onsite services,” he said.
“We’re committed to upholding the highest of environmental, social and governance standards across the airport. Working with EcoVadis to undertake these assessments is an important part of our commitment to operating as sustainably and responsibly as possible.”
Pierre-François Thaler, co-founder and co-CEO of EcoVadis, said the partnership demonstrated how independent sustainability standards could be incorporated directly into aviation supply chains and airport operations.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport has been closed since 2022 and is currently undergoing a reopening process. The plans are backed by local authorities, including the City of Doncaster Council and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.
The airport is expected to generate £5 billion for the regional economy by 2050, while current plans aim for the full site to reopen by April 2028.
