SolitAir has expanded its African cargo network with the launch of freight services to Ghana through Accra International Airport (ACC), bringing the carrier’s presence on the continent to 21 destinations across 17 countries.

The UAE-based B2B airport-to-airport express middle-mile cargo airline has been steadily increasing its African footprint in recent weeks. On September 1, SolitAir added Port Harcourt in Nigeria and Hargeisa in Somaliland, taking its African network at the time to 20 destinations in 16 countries.

The addition of Accra further strengthens the carrier’s position in West Africa, following its recent entry into Nigeria. SolitAir said the new service is designed to connect the UAE with markets that are experiencing growth but have historically been underserved by air cargo capacity.

The 6,250-kilometre route between Accra and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), SolitAir’s home base, introduces additional capacity on a corridor supporting Ghana’s key export flows, including gold, foodstuff and perishables.

With the Ghana launch, SolitAir’s global network now extends to more than 60 destinations across over 40 countries spanning the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe.

The carrier currently operates seven Boeing 737-800BCF freighter aircraft, each offering a cargo capacity of 20 tonnes. The fleet is based at SolitAir’s 20,440-square-metre hub facility at Dubai World Central. The facility at Al Maktoum International Airport has been operational since October 2024.

SolitAir is targeting a fleet of 20 aircraft by the end of 2027. The airline also expanded beyond its established markets in August, when it launched its first charter cargo service between Dubai World Central and Bishkek in Kyrgyzstan, extending its reach into Central Asia.

The carrier holds a UAE GCAA Air Operator’s Certificate, EASA Third Country Operator authorisation, ACC3 designation granted by the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority and UK CAA Third Country Operator certification.

Hamdi Osman, Founder and CEO of SolitAir, described the launch of the Ghana service as an important milestone in the company’s wider expansion strategy.

According to Osman, Accra is a rapidly developing African aviation hub handling between 40,000 and 50,000 metric tonnes of cargo each year, with volumes continuing to follow an annual growth trajectory. The new connection links the UAE with a market of 37.5 million people and is intended to respond to rising demand for air cargo services.

Osman said the service will link Middle Eastern logistics networks with West Africa’s export market for agricultural and high-value goods. At the same time, he said it will help address the region’s need for inbound imports from global markets.

SolitAir’s African network now includes the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Guinea, Kenya, Libya, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Somaliland, South Africa, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
