Huntington sues 24 R&R companies over more than $12M in debt

Nearly eight months after the R&R Family of Companies collapsed, the financial consequences continue to spread across the freight industry.

Trucking and freight-related businesses are still contacting FreightWaves over unpaid invoices, while creditors seek clarity on whether they will ever recover the money owed by R&R and its affiliated companies.

A federal lawsuit filed by Huntington National Bank now offers one of the clearest views yet into the network of companies connected to R&R and the debt left behind after the Pittsburgh-based logistics operation unraveled.

Huntington filed the lawsuit June 8 in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against 24 R&R-related companies. The bank alleges that the companies collectively owe more than $12 million under a shared lending arrangement.

Among the defendants are R&R Express, R&R Express Holdco, R&R Express Logistics, RFX, Refrigerated Food Express, GT Worldwide Transport, GT Worldwide Logistics, Load to Ride Transportation, RFX Tampa and New Taylor Transportation.

Huntington argues that the defendants are jointly and severally liable for the outstanding obligations. In practical terms, the bank is seeking the right to recover the debt from any or all of the companies covered by the relevant loan agreements.

The lawsuit represents the latest legal development following R&R’s financial collapse. The company’s operations began shutting down in January, leaving employees without jobs while carriers and other creditors were left pursuing unpaid bills.

Huntington says more than $12M remains outstanding

According to Huntington’s complaint, the bank and S&T Bank entered into a Second Amended and Restated Credit and Security Agreement with R&R companies and other borrowers on March 18, 2022.

The financing arrangement included a revolving loan commitment of up to $85 million, as well as a $3.675 million term loan.

Court records show that a Huntington revolving note was later amended to approximately $65.9 million. A separate revolving note involving S&T Bank had a balance of approximately $19.1 million.

The borrowers pledged substantially all of their assets as collateral for the operating loans, according to the complaint.

Huntington alleges that all 24 defendants are jointly and severally responsible for obligations arising under the credit agreement. The bank collectively refers to the businesses involved as part of a broader freight forwarding, trucking and logistics group known as “R&R Express Co.”

As of June 8, the outstanding balance on the operating loans had exceeded $12 million. That figure does not include legal fees, costs, default interest or other additional charges, Huntington said.

The bank is seeking a money judgment covering the outstanding balance, together with post-judgment interest, attorneys’ fees and costs.

The allegations contained in the lawsuit have not been adjudicated.

Lawsuit reveals the scope of R&R’s corporate structure

Beyond the debt itself, Huntington’s complaint provides a detailed picture of the corporate relationships linking numerous R&R businesses through R&R Express Holdco and RFX.

The structure is significant because several of the companies operated under separate names and served different areas of the freight market while remaining connected through R&R’s holding-company structure.

Among the relationships identified in Huntington’s complaint are:

Company Relationship alleged in Huntington complaint
R&R Express Inc.Core R&R operating company
R&R Express Holdco Inc.Parent/holding company for numerous affiliates
R&R Express Logistics Inc.Solely owned by R&R Express Holdco
R&R Express Properties LLCSolely owned by R&R Express Holdco
R&R Driver Solutions Inc.Solely owned by R&R Express Holdco

One Stop Freightways LLCSolely owned by R&R Express Holdco
RFX Tampa LLCSolely owned by RFX
New Taylor Transportation LLCSolely owned by RFX

No results found.

The ownership structure helps explain how companies operating in different freight segments remained tied to the same broader organization.

New Taylor Transportation is connected to Taylor Express, the North Carolina trucking operation whose employees were abruptly laid off in January. Load to Ride was another trucking business acquired by R&R before the group’s financial problems intensified.

RFX, meanwhile, operated as one of the organization’s freight brokerage businesses.

Bank says R&R could no longer pay its creditors

Huntington’s complaint links R&R’s financial deterioration to the prolonged freight downturn that followed the pandemic-era trucking boom.

According to the bank, R&R’s financial condition weakened during the freight recession, with the deterioration accelerating during 2025.

By late 2025, Huntington and S&T had notified R&R-related borrowers that they would no longer provide additional advances under the operating loans, the complaint states.

Huntington alleges that the defendants subsequently “ceased operating due to a lack of liquidity and access to financing.”

The bank identifies several alleged events of default. They include missed debt-service payments, defaults involving other co-borrowers and a real estate transfer by one of the borrowers.

For trucking companies and other freight businesses still waiting for payment, another allegation in the complaint is particularly significant.

Huntington alleges that the borrowers acknowledged in writing that they were unable to pay creditors as their debts became due.

The complaint also specifically alleges that the defendants failed to pay carriers in a timely manner. Huntington contends that this failure represented another default under the credit agreement.

Unpaid freight claims continue to emerge

The Huntington lawsuit comes as carriers and other freight companies keep looking for ways to recover money from R&R-related businesses.

Another separate case is from Illinois-based motor carrier Amerixpress Inc., which sued R&R Express Logistics in February. Amerixpress said it had moved 37 loads but has not been paid $152,050 in freight charges.

Amerixpress did ship and deliver the shipments before invoicing R&R for the transportation services as alleged in the complaint.

Amerixpress obtained a default judgment against R&R Express Logistics. On May 14, the court entered judgment in favor of Amerixpress for $152,050 plus costs.

Documents attached to the Amerixpress lawsuit also give a view of the impact of R&R’s payment woes on financial arrangements with carriers.

Certain Amerixpress invoices included notices of assignment of receivables to the factoring company RTS Financial Services and instructions to make payment to RTS.

Over the past several months, FreightWaves has continued to receive inquiries from companies looking for information on unpaid R&R and RFX invoices and the status of efforts to recover those funds.

Significantly, the Huntington complaint does not allege a bankruptcy proceeding involving the R&R companies. Instead, creditors and lenders have increasingly turned to individual lawsuits in their efforts to collect money owed them.

Why it’s important

A lawsuit filed by Huntington National Bank shows the tangled corporate web around R&R Family of Companies and the financial mess left behind after the group’s collapse.

Meanwhile, carriers and other freight creditors are still uncertain about unpaid invoices and where they can turn to get their money back.

The case also shows how the repercussions of R&R’s shutdown ripple far beyond the company’s previous employees and operations, impacting trucking companies, freight brokers, lenders, factoring companies and other players in the freight marketplace.
