Frankfurt Airport continued to see solid demand for air cargo services in August 2026, with freight volumes increasing despite a decline in aircraft movements. Passenger traffic, meanwhile, remained broadly stable during the month.
Cargo volumes, including both airfreight and airmail, reached 179,400 metric tonnes, representing a 2.9% increase compared with August 2025. The performance underlines the continued importance of Frankfurt as one of Europe’s major air cargo hubs.
The increase in cargo was recorded against a reduction in overall aircraft activity. Frankfurt Airport handled 40,968 takeoffs and landings during the month, down 4.6% year-on-year.
Total maximum takeoff weights (MTOW) also decreased. They stood at approximately 2.6 million metric tonnes, representing a 1.6% decline compared with August 2025.
The cargo development comes as Fraport continues to strengthen its focus on the airport’s freight business.
