FedEx Freight has expanded the responsibilities of Chief Technology Officer Mike Rodgers, naming him chief commercial and technology officer with immediate effect.
The move comes less than two weeks after the less-than-truckload carrier terminated Mike Lyons from his position as chief specialized services and commercial officer following an internal investigation.
The company said Rodgers’ new position represents an extension of the role he has held since joining FedEx Freight in June 2025. His responsibilities will now cover technology, commercial strategy, customer experience and marketing.
Rodgers brings more than three decades of experience in digital strategy to the expanded position. From 2015 through 2024, he led technology initiatives for Pilot Company and its network of truck stops and travel centers.
He has also played an important role in FedEx Freight’s separation of its information-technology operations from FedEx as part of the company’s spinoff process. That work included the development of a new freight-pricing platform specifically designed for the LTL business.
“Mike has a deep understanding of our customers and a strong track record of creating customer, business, employee, and shareholder value, which has been built over decades,” said John Smith, president and CEO.
“His leadership, commitment to our culture, and strong relationships across the organization, combined with his broad commercial and operational experience, will help us accelerate and unlock further value as we continue to execute our strategy in the years to come.”
The leadership change comes at a significant point for the North American less-than-truckload market. As the continent’s largest LTL carrier, changes within FedEx Freight can have broader implications for competitive positioning and pricing across the sector.
Bringing technology and commercial responsibilities under a single executive also points to a closer integration between digital strategy, customer experience and commercial priorities, with the aim of strengthening key customer relationships while supporting the company’s wider strategy.
