Seaway7, a leading offshore wind installation company and a subsidiary of Subsea7 Group, has been awarded a significant contract for the 1.1 GW Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm located off the Scottish coast. The agreement highlights Seaway7’s expertise in delivering large-scale renewable energy projects and its role in supporting the UK’s clean energy goals.

About the Inch Cape Project

  • Location: 15 kilometers off the Angus coastline in the North Sea, Scotland.
  • Capacity: 1.1 GW, making it one of Scotland’s largest offshore wind farms.
  • Turbine Model: The wind farm will use 72 Vestas V236-15.0 MW turbines, each delivering 15 MW of clean energy.

Once completed, Inch Cape will provide enough renewable electricity to power up to 1 million homes annually and significantly contribute to the UK’s net-zero targets.

Scope of Seaway7’s Work

Under the terms of the contract, Seaway7 will handle:

  1. Transport and Installation: Deployment of 72 pin-pile jacket foundations and 54 transition pieces.
  2. Project Execution Timeline: Offshore operations are scheduled to commence in 2026, with project completion and full operation expected by 2027.

This critical infrastructure will ensure the stability and longevity of the wind farm’s energy production.

Contract Value and Partnership

  • The contract is valued between $150 million and $300 million, reflecting the project’s scale and importance.
  • Awarded by Cape Offshore Limited, a joint venture between ESB (Ireland’s leading energy company) and Red Rock Power, Inch Cape stands as a strategic investment for sustainable energy production.

Leadership Insights

Lloyd Duthie, Seaway7’s Vice President for UK & Asia, stated:
“We are excited to bring our expertise to the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, supporting the UK’s transition to renewable energy while contributing to clean power generation for the future.”

John Hill, Project Director for Inch Cape, added:
“Partnering with Seaway7 ensures the successful delivery of our foundation installation, a key milestone in realizing this vital energy infrastructure.”

Strategic Importance for the UK

The Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm aligns with the UK’s ambitious renewable energy goals:

  • Supporting the UK’s net-zero carbon emissions target by 2050.
  • Reducing reliance on fossil fuels and enhancing energy security.
  • Creating local jobs and contributing to Scotland’s economy through clean energy investments.

Conclusion

Seaway7’s selection for the Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm demonstrates its global leadership in offshore wind project execution. With cutting-edge technology and strategic partnerships, the project is set to become a cornerstone of Scotland’s renewable energy landscape.
