A multiyear investigation into commercial vehicle thefts in the Carolinas has resulted in the recovery of more than $1 million worth of stolen equipment, including 13 semi-trucks, three trailers and two motor vehicles. As part of the operation, two men from North Carolina were arrested and now face several felony charges.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a series of commercial vehicle thefts that have been reported in and around the city of Florence between November 8, 2022 and October 4, 2025.

Authorities identified the suspects as Andre Horace David Jumpp, 38, of Home Mills, North Carolina, and Prince Raymond Leon Betts, 37, of Raeford, North Carolina.

Investigators allege the pair stole nine commercial motor vehicles with an estimated value of $876,500. Both men have been charged with nine counts of grand larceny under South Carolina law. They also face charges of criminal conspiracy, unlawful entry into enclosed places, and malicious injury to property.

Jumpp was taken into custody on July 22, while Betts was arrested two days later.

The investigation was a joint effort with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office and several other law enforcement agencies across the state of North Carolina.

During the operation, investigators recovered 18 vehicles, including 13 tractors, three trailers and two additional motor vehicles. Together, the recovered assets are valued at more than $1 million.

Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the equipment owners, the locations where the vehicles were recovered or the timeline of each recovery. Officials also have not confirmed whether every recovered vehicle is directly linked to the charges filed against Jumpp and Betts.

Following their arrests, Jumpp was released from the Florence County Detention Center after posting a $68,436 surety bond, while Betts secured his release on a $137,596 surety bond.

The case remains active, investigators said, and more charges and arrests are still possible. The Florence County Sheriff’s Office also confirmed that, because the investigation is ongoing, it has no further public comment beyond its official statement.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations only. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Why it matters Theft of commercial vehicles can create serious disruptions for carriers, including freight movement delays, breaks in supply chains and significant financial losses. The study also stresses the importance of secure parking facilities, proper equipment tracking and timely reporting to improve the chances of recovering stolen trucks and trailers.
