Finnish maritime technology company Awake. AI has entered into a partnership with Dutch maritime systems specialist Tidalis to introduce a new emissions monitoring and reporting solution for ports and ship operators facing increasingly strict environmental regulations.

The collaboration will integrate Awake. AI’s emissions monitoring technology with Tidalis’ vessel traffic services and port management systems, which are already widely deployed by ports, coastguards and maritime authorities around the world.

According to the two companies, the new solution is intended to automate emissions reporting linked to major regulatory frameworks, including FuelEU Maritime, the EU Emissions Trading System and the wider decarbonisation initiatives being advanced by the International Maritime Organization.

As part of the agreement, operational data collected through Tidalis systems  including port calls, cargo handling activity, fueling operations, shore power usage and gate-event information  will be transferred into Awake. AI’s Emission Monitor platform to generate Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions reporting.

Karno Tenovuo, chief executive of Awake.AI, said the maritime industry already generates large volumes of operational information but continues to face challenges when converting that data into practical emissions intelligence.

“You cannot decarbonise what you cannot measure,” Tenovuo stated. “The challenge is turning that data into reliable and auditable emissions reporting that supports both compliance and operational decision-making.”

The companies confirmed that initial deployments of the new system are expected to begin at European ports later this year, primarily to support compliance with Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive requirements.

Following the first European rollout phase, the partnership plans to expand the offering into Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and the Americas as demand for emissions transparency and regulatory reporting continues to grow across global shipping markets.
