Mexican cargo carrier Awesome Cargo has taken another step in expanding its international air freight activities with the launch of its first Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance (ACMI) operation for DHL.
The inaugural service departed Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) in the United States and headed to Leipzig/Halle Airport (LEJ) in Germany. The route is being operated with an Airbus A330-200P2F freighter, registered XA-DUR.
The new operation builds on Awesome Cargo’s growing experience across Asia, the Americas, Africa and Europe. The carrier has supported customers in a range of markets, particularly global e-commerce and time-critical perishable cargo.
Earlier this year, Awesome Cargo provided ACMI capacity to Avianca Cargo during the peak flower season. Its previous operations have also involved the transportation of Chilean cherries and salmon, live lobsters from the Caribbean and Colombian flowers.
According to Awesome Cargo, the DHL contract is part of a broader strategy to diversify its business and establish a stronger ACMI platform built around long-term partnerships with airlines, integrators and logistics companies.
The carrier’s expanding business portfolio now covers ACMI operations, long-term e-commerce charter services and the transportation of time-sensitive perishables.
The start of the DHL operation represents another milestone for the Mexican cargo airline as it works to reinforce its position in the international freighter and ACMI market.
