CCT Auto Trans is expanding its presence in Canada’s vehicle transportation market with the acquisition of Livingston Vehicle Transportation Services (VTS), a move announced Tuesday that will broaden the company’s geographic reach and strengthen its service offering. The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Livingston VTS operates one of Canada’s largest vehicle-hauling networks, supported by its own fleet of trucks and car haulers. The company has seven locations nationwide and works with Canadian National (NYSE: CNI) to handle transcontinental vehicle movements. Its customers range from automotive manufacturers to individual vehicle owners.
Before the acquisition, Livingston VTS operated as a business unit of Livingston International, one of Canada’s largest customs brokers.
For CCT Auto Trans, the transaction represents an opportunity to combine an established customer base with a broader network of physical assets across the country. Chad Doiron, the company’s president and CEO, highlighted Livingston VTS’s long-standing employees, dedicated drivers and presence in most major Canadian cities.
In a news release, Doiron said the acquisition would position CCT as the only company in Canada offering open, enclosed and rail vehicle transportation. He also pointed to the opportunity to build on Livingston VTS’s national footprint and expand services for existing customers in the locations covered by the network.
Livingston VTS to operate under CCT Vehicle Transportation Solutions
Following the acquisition, CCT Group of Companies will operate Livingston VTS under the name CCT Vehicle Transportation Solutions. The transition will include Livingston VTS employees and drivers, who will move into the new operation.
Livingston International CEO Robert Smith said the company appreciated the contributions made by VTS employees in supporting customers over the years. He described the transaction as beneficial to both organizations, allowing the vehicle transportation business to continue growing under an operator with a long and successful track record in the sector.
The sale will also enable Livingston International to concentrate on its core business.
CCT Auto Trans already transports finished vehicles using a fleet of 90 open auto carrier units and employs more than 80 people, including drivers. The addition of Livingston VTS will extend the company’s operating reach and complement its existing transportation capabilities.
More shakeout in the car-hauling business
The deal is the latest in a series of acquisitions and changes sweeping the finished vehicle transport industry.
In August, Acertus, a provider of finished vehicle transportation services, announced it acquired Fisher Shipping. Also in that month, Proficient Auto Logistics (NASDAQ: PAL) bought Hansen & Adkins for $130 million.
There have also been business closures in the sector. Jack Cooper ops ceased in early 2025.
Taken overall said: “This is part of a wider consolidation trend whereby operators are seeking to achieve scale, expand geographic reach and bring together multiple modes of transport under one offer.
Left Lane Associates represented Livingston in the transaction.
The deal provides CCT Auto Trans with a larger national platform in Canada, and also exemplifies how players in the vehicle-hauling market are tapping strategic acquisitions to enhance their networks and expand their service offerings.
