Çelebi Aviation has officially entered the Kenyan aviation and air cargo market, marking another step in its expansion across Africa.
The Turkey-based ground handling company completed the 100% acquisition of Transglobal Cargo Centre Ltd, known as Africa Flight Services, for $40.1 million in January.
Located at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Africa Flight Services provides ground handling, air cargo and warehousing services.
Çelebi described the move as a key milestone in its African growth strategy and said Kenya represents a high-potential market for aviation and logistics services.
The company said the expansion reflects its confidence in the region’s aviation potential and supports its ambition to deepen its presence across the continent. Çelebi added that it will focus on using its global expertise to improve efficiency, service quality and long-term value creation.
The move comes after Çelebi ended its concession agreement in Tanzania for ground handling and cargo services at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam. That contract had been running since March 2021.
Çelebi said it chose not to continue operations in Tanzania in order to focus on markets offering more sustainable long-term growth opportunities.
