Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) has announced a further expansion of its collaboration with global logistics provider DSV through the launch of a new weekly air freight service connecting Luxembourg and Rockford. The announcement was made during Air Cargo China in Shanghai and marks another step in strengthening the airport’s growing position within international cargo supply chains.
The new route builds on the success of DSV’s existing weekly service linking Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) with Rockford, which was introduced in November 2025 under the company’s Shanghai Star Air Freight Charter programme. Together, the two services enhance connectivity between Europe, Asia and the Americas while reinforcing Rockford’s role as a strategic international cargo gateway.
Airport officials highlighted Rockford’s dedicated cargo infrastructure as one of the key drivers behind the partnership’s continued growth. With uncongested, around-the-clock cargo operations available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the airport offers logistics providers a fast and reliable alternative for international freight movements.
The existing Shanghai-Rockford route has already demonstrated the airport’s ability to provide efficient access to markets across North, Central and South America, making it an increasingly attractive hub for global logistics operations.
Stefan Krikken, Head of Airfreight – Global at DSV, said the company’s experience with Rockford has exceeded expectations. According to him, the airport has proven to be a dependable partner thanks to its cargo-focused infrastructure, operational consistency and reliable service levels. He added that the success of the Shanghai connection confirmed the strategic value of Rockford within DSV’s international network.
Looking ahead, DSV is already assessing additional opportunities to further expand its operations through Rockford. Among the projects currently under evaluation is a new cargo service linking Incheon International Airport (ICN) in South Korea with RFD later this year, a move that would further strengthen the airport’s connectivity with key Asian manufacturing and export markets.
The expansion reflects DSV’s broader strategy of building a flexible and resilient global air freight network while positioning Chicago Rockford International Airport as an increasingly important gateway connecting Europe, Asia and the Americas.
