The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport UK (CILT UK) has announced the appointment of Steven Bishop FCILT and Stephen Fidler OBE FCILT as its newest Vice-Presidents.
The two appointments bring extensive experience from across the public and private sectors, as well as government and the wider built environment. Their combined backgrounds cover transport policy and strategy, planning, infrastructure, economic development and passenger transport.
Steven Bishop is a transport planning and economic development professional who has spent more than two decades working across both the public and private sectors. Throughout his career, he has worked with government, transport operators, investors, academic institutions and local communities, with a focus on bringing together economic development, planning and mobility.
Bishop is also a Director at Steer, an international consultancy specialising in infrastructure, cities and transport advisory and planning.
Commenting on his appointment as Vice-President, Steven Bishop said: “I’m delighted to take on the role of Vice President at CILT UK. At a time when transport has such an important role in supporting economic growth, connecting communities and assisting new homes and development. CILT UK has a crucial role in bringing different perspectives together, sharing knowledge and strengthening the professional expertise we need to adapt and grow. I look forward to adding my experience and helping ensure our profession continues to make a strong contribution to the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
Stephen Fidler brings more than 30 years of transport experience gained across government and is currently Director of Local Passenger Transport & Inclusion at the Department for Transport (DfT).
During his career as a senior civil servant, Fidler has held a number of significant positions. His previous roles include working in the No 10 Policy Unit and at the then Department of the Environment, alongside senior positions within the Department for Transport.
Fidler is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation and CILT UK. He was also awarded an OBE for services to transport in the 2019 New Year Honours List.
Speaking about his new role, Stephen Fidler said: “I am hugely motivated by the difference transport can make for people and communities. It is a privilege to be invited to become one of the Vice-Presidents and play my part in supporting the Institute’s vital work. I have seen the difference that committed and skilled transport professionals make to people’s lives and growth. I look forward to supporting that work and helping the Institute grow from strength to strength.”
Leon Daniels, OBE & FCILT, President of CILT UK, also paid tribute to the Institute’s outgoing Vice-Presidents, Steve Gooding, CB & FCILT, and Elizabeth Gilliard, FCILT.
