In a landmark move set to redefine the future of global healthcare logistics, DHL Group has unveiled a €2 billion investment plan to be executed by 2030, aimed at expanding its new dedicated division: DHL Health Logistics. The announcement underscores the company’s strategic pivot toward serving the surging demand for specialized and regulated healthcare transportation and supply chain solutions.

The initiative reflects DHL’s ambition to become the backbone of the medical logistics infrastructure for a rapidly evolving global health sector. The investment will fund the development of a robust, technology-driven logistics network designed to deliver temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and clinical trial materials across borders with precision and compliance.

Strengthening the Backbone of Global Health

Healthcare logistics is no longer a niche—it’s a strategic necessity. With rising complexities in the distribution of biologics, vaccines, and high-value therapies, DHL Health Logistics will provide specialized storage, temperature-controlled transport, and end-to-end traceability through cutting-edge digital tools.

“Reliable healthcare logistics can save lives. Our investment in DHL Health Logistics reflects a long-term commitment to strengthening access, safety, and visibility across the medical supply chain,” said a DHL Group spokesperson.

Global Infrastructure for Critical Deliveries

DHL’s new division will feature expanded cold-chain warehouses, certified Good Distribution Practice (GDP) transportation, and dedicated healthcare hubs across major global trade routes. The investment will also target talent development, training staff in handling sensitive medical cargo to ensure regulatory compliance and product integrity.

Digitalization remains a cornerstone of this transformation. DHL will roll out enhanced track-and-trace systems, real-time temperature monitoring, and AI-powered route optimization to support transparency and risk mitigation.

Responding to Market Demand and Global Risks

The investment comes at a time when healthcare systems worldwide are demanding more reliable supply chains in response to increasing regulatory scrutiny, aging populations, and growing geopolitical uncertainty.

As governments and private sector players alike seek greater control over medical logistics, DHL’s early and significant commitment positions it as a partner of choice for global healthcare manufacturers, providers, and institutions.

Future Outlook: Leadership in Life-Saving Logistics

DHL Health Logistics aims to lead not only in volume, but in service quality, compliance, and resilience. The €2 billion investment is expected to accelerate innovation in patient-centric logistics, such as direct-to-patient shipments, cell and gene therapy handling, and decentralized clinical trial support.

With this bold expansion, DHL is sending a clear message: healthcare logistics is no longer a support function—it is a strategic pillar for global health.
