FedEx Europe has introduced a new digital portal designed to simplify the booking and management of temperature-controlled pharmaceutical shipments across 26 European markets. The platform aims to make time-sensitive healthcare deliveries easier to organise while giving pharmaceutical and life sciences companies greater control over their logistics operations.
Launched ahead of the year-end peak shipping season, the portal provides access to FedEx Temp-Assure Advantage, the company’s temperature-controlled shipping solution. Customers can use the platform to complete onboarding, order pre-conditioned packaging, arrange shipments and manage returns through a single online interface.
The service is intended for pharmaceutical manufacturers, biotechnology businesses and clinical trial operators. Its launch comes as demand continues to grow for biologics, specialty medicines and vaccines, products that often require strict temperature management throughout transportation.
Temperature control in multiple shipping environment
FedEx Temp-Assure Advantage leverages qualified packaging, tested in the company’s packaging laboratory, and its European transportation network to help ensure the integrity of temperature-sensitive shipments during transit.
It is built to carry three temperature zones: frozen shipments between -25°C and -15°C; refrigerated products between 2°C and 8°C; and controlled room temperature shipments between 15°C and 25°C.
The vacuum-insulated packaging and phase-change materials FedEx uses are designed to keep the required temperatures for more than 96 hours, the company said. This ability helps to protect sensitive pharmaceutical products during transport, including shipments that require extended temperature stability.
The logistics solution is also supported by CEIV Pharma certified facilities and standard operating procedures. These measures help enable shipment visibility, temperature control and compliance throughout the transportation process, addressing the key requirements for pharmaceutical supply chains.
Re-useable packaging helps to cut down waste
The new service offers temperature management, as well as a reusable packaging model introduced by FedEx. This system collects, refurbishes and puts used packaging containers back into circulation.
The model aims to reduce packaging waste while still delivering the performance needed for temperature-controlled pharmaceutical shipments. It also allows customers to choose not to rely solely on single-use packaging materials.
“The pharmaceutical logistics business is becoming more complex and requires services that are available and can be relied upon,” said Toby Hay, managing director of international marketing at FedEx Europe.
“As pharmaceutical supply chains become more global and focused on high value, temperature-sensitive therapies, healthcare companies need logistics partners that can combine reliability, compliance and ease of access,” said Hay.
He said the new portal is an important step to simplifying access to specialized temperature-controlled capabilities. “The platform will enable customers to better manage critical shipments with greater efficiency and confidence as they prepare for the increased demands of the year-end peak season,” Hay said.
Available across 26 European markets
The portal covers non-freight shipments on domestic and intra-European routes across 26 markets. These include Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
By consolidating key shipping activities within a single digital platform, FedEx is seeking to simplify access to its specialised pharmaceutical transportation services across this network.
