TORONTO — GHD has been selected by the City of Toronto to develop a greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation strategy for Toronto Water, supporting the city’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.
According to the release, the strategy will bring together Toronto Water’s existing greenhouse gas reduction initiatives while establishing achievable targets aligned with the city’s TransformTO vision.
The work will also identify and prioritize mitigation activities that can help Toronto Water reduce its emissions and advance its long-term climate objectives.
GHD will be working with JL Richards & Associates Ltd., Cobalt Water and the University of Windsor as project partners.
As part of the assignment, the project team will design and facilitate workshops involving Toronto Water staff and other stakeholders at key stages throughout the development of the strategy.
The team will also support the development of new policies and assess emerging technologies that could contribute to Toronto Water’s GHG mitigation efforts.
Another component of the project will involve co-creating decision-support tools specifically adapted to Toronto Water’s operational context, helping inform future mitigation decisions and priorities.
Through the strategy, GHD and its partners will support Toronto Water in consolidating its existing efforts while identifying practical opportunities to accelerate emissions reductions and contribute to Toronto’s broader 2040 net-zero target.
