Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world’s largest ocean carriers, has committed to further reducing its environmental impact by ordering six dual-fuel container vessels capable of operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG). This move is part of Hapag-Lloyd’s strategy to reduce its carbon footprint and comply with stricter environmental regulations set to come into force in the coming years.
The vessels, each with a capacity of 23,500 TEUs, are scheduled for delivery in 2025 and will be among the largest and most efficient ships in the company’s fleet. Hapag-Lloyd’s investment in dual-fuel technology is expected to cut carbon emissions by up to 30% compared to traditional ships, positioning the company as a leader in sustainable shipping.
