LATAM Cargo’s direct freighter service between Miami International Airport (MIA) and Belo Horizonte/Confins (CNF) is approaching its first anniversary with 829 tonnes of cargo transported across 46 weeks of operation.

The airline expects the total to surpass 900 tonnes once the route completes its first full 52 weeks.

The service operates once a week on Saturdays using Boeing 767-300F freighters, with a capacity of up to 50 tonnes per flight. Cargo carried on the route has included equipment, components, spare parts and other shipments, with mining, rail and manufacturing among the main sectors served.

“The consolidation of the Miami–Confins route in its first year highlights the importance of a direct freighter connection between Miami and Minas Gerais, as well as our customers’ confidence in the operation,” said Andres Varela, Commercial VP for LATAM Cargo in the United States and Asia.

According to Varela, the route supports critical sectors of Minas Gerais’ economy, particularly mining, rail and heavy industry, by enabling machinery, components and parts to be transported with greater speed and reliability.

“We remain committed to a long-term sustainable operation and closely attuned to demand trends to support our customers’ evolving needs,” he added.

The route also supports a broader effort by BCNF to strengthen Minas Gerais’ position as a logistics platform increasingly connected to international markets. The facility is the state’s only primary customs terminal and combines air, sea and road transport to provide end-to-end import and export coverage.

With more than 15,000 square metres dedicated to international cargo operations, the facility serves strategic industries including healthcare, automotive and mining.

Its network of direct international connections also gives local companies greater access to major global markets through destinations including Miami, Orlando, Lisbon, Panama City, Santiago and Buenos Aires.

Geovane Medina, Commercial Manager at Belo Horizonte/Confins Airport, said the first year of the route demonstrates the value of combining air connectivity with infrastructure capable of efficiently moving cargo onward within Brazil.

“At BH Airport, we combine customs clearance, warehousing, import processing, and distribution into a single platform, expanding options for companies and strengthening Minas Gerais’ integration into global trade flows,” Medina said.

He added that the Miami connection is a strategic pillar of this model and provides a foundation for sustainable growth.
