Logistics UK employees have raised more than £1,000 for suicide prevention charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) after completing four charity walks across the UK in September and October. The initiative brought together 60 colleagues, who walked a combined distance of more than 500 miles in support of the organisation’s chosen charity partner.
The annual fundraising programme featured four routes across England and Scotland. Participants walked around Bewl Water Reservoir in Kent, crossed 11 bridges over the River Thames in London, completed the Callander and Oban Railway Circular Walk in Scotland, and circumnavigated the Fewston and Swinsty Reservoirs in North Yorkshire.
The funds raised will contribute to CALM’s work, which provides life-saving services and practical mental health support to people experiencing difficulties. Participants wore official event T-shirts supplied by sponsor Soval Safety Jogger.
Logistics UK Chief Executive Ben Fletcher highlighted the importance of the charity’s work and the organisation’s commitment to supporting mental health.
“The practical help, resources and support services CALM provides can represent a lifeline for anyone who is struggling with the issues in life that can make us feel miserable. We are proud to be supporting CALM as our chosen charity this year and congratulate everyone who has taken part in one of the fundraising walks.
“The work CALM does to raise awareness and provide support is aligned closely with Logistics UK’s THRIVE campaign, an initiative we launched earlier this year to raise awareness of the challenges logistics professionals can face, as well as providing a curated collection of resources on a range of topics that include sleep, nutrition and fitness.”
The fundraising walks form part of Logistics UK’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, which gives employees two days of paid volunteering leave annually to participate in charitable activities and support community initiatives. The programme aims to encourage staff involvement in causes that benefit society while strengthening connections across the organisation.
Beyond the money collected, the walks also provided an opportunity for colleagues from different parts of the business to meet, build relationships and spend time outdoors.
“In addition to raising money for a fantastic cause, the walks that have taken place have provided a great opportunity for colleagues across the business to come together, meet new people and enjoy time outdoors,” continued Mr Fletcher. “The conversations the walks have fostered have been an essential part of spotlighting the importance of mental health and wellbeing, which sits at the heart of CALM’s and THRIVE’s mission.”
