The Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) has launched its Build Lower Mainland campaign ahead of British Columbia’s municipal election in October, aiming to strengthen collaboration between the construction industry and local governments.

The initiative is built around three key priorities: cost to build, time to build, and people to build. According to the association, the campaign is designed to promote practical solutions that address the challenges facing construction while encouraging closer cooperation between industry leaders and municipal decision-makers.

The campaign was officially introduced during a panel discussion featuring Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim, Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley, Impact Public Affairs President Huw Williams, and VRCA Director of Advocacy and Engagement Craig Larkins, who moderated the event.

Discussions focused on how municipal policies influence construction, housing, infrastructure development, and long-term regional growth across the Lower Mainland.

For the VRCA, one of the campaign’s main objectives is to ensure the construction industry has a seat at the table earlier in the decision-making process.

“Every community relies on construction, yet too often our industry is brought into the conversation after the biggest decisions have already been made,” said Jeannine Martin, President of the VRCA. “Build Lower Mainland is about changing that. When construction has a voice from the start, communities benefit from better decisions, stronger partnerships, and projects that move forward more efficiently.”

With significant investments in housing and infrastructure expected across the region in the coming years, the association says the campaign will focus on ensuring industry expertise helps shape decisions that determine what gets built, how quickly projects are delivered, and whether there is a skilled workforce available to complete them.

The VRCA is also encouraging construction professionals, industry partners, and association members to participate in the campaign and contribute to discussions about the future development of the Lower Mainland.
