Walmart is planning a $300 million investment in a new fulfillment center in Turtlecreek Township, Ohio, as the retailer continues to expand and reshape its distribution network.

The project was announced in a Sept. 28 press release from the Regional Economic Development Initiative Cincinnati (REDI Cincinnati). The new facility will focus specifically on larger, non-sortable products, including televisions, furniture and other oversized goods.

According to the release, locating more inventory closer to customers will allow Walmart to increase the speed and range of its deliveries while supporting the continued expansion of its next-day delivery network.

The development is expected to create more than 300 new jobs. It follows Walmart’s acquisition of nearly 100 acres in Warren County, where the new facility will be built.

The Turtlecreek operation is also intended to complement Walmart’s existing fulfillment center in nearby Monroe, Ohio. That facility currently employs more than 200 associates and provides Walmart with an established fulfillment presence in the region.

REDI Cincinnati did not provide details on the planned size of the Turtlecreek facility or disclose when construction is expected to begin.

Part of a broader overhaul of Walmart’s fulfillment network

The Ohio investment comes as Walmart continues to adjust its warehouse footprint, with the retailer pursuing a mix of new construction, facility upgrades and closures across its network.

Earlier this year, Walmart filed a proposal to construct a 1.5-million-square-foot fulfillment warehouse in New York. The retailer has also announced plans to invest more than $330 million in upgrading its regional distribution center in Opelousas, Louisiana, where robotics and automation are expected to play a central role.

At the same time, Walmart is moving in the opposite direction at several other locations. The company plans to close a fulfillment center in Massachusetts as well as another facility in Illinois.

The different moves reflect an ongoing effort to adapt Walmart’s fulfillment infrastructure to changing delivery requirements and the types of products moving through its e-commerce network.

Retailers expand their big-and-bulky capabilities

Walmart is not alone in investing in infrastructure dedicated to large and bulky products. Other major retailers and e-commerce companies are also expanding their capabilities in a segment that presents different fulfillment and delivery requirements from smaller, sortable packages.

Amazon recently announced a series of upcoming service features for oversized goods, including regional delivery options and pricing specifically designed for bulky items. At the Amazon Accelerate 2026 conference, the company said the big-and-bulky segment had become one of its fastest-growing merchant categories.

Costco is also seeing significant growth in its Costco Logistics business, which specializes in the delivery of big and bulky products, including furniture.

For Walmart, the new Ohio facility adds another dedicated piece to that broader strategy, bringing inventory for oversized products closer to customers while expanding fulfillment capacity in the Cincinnati region.
