Less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier XPO opened two new terminals in Arizona and Missouri, increasing its total number of terminals to 300 in North America, the company said Thursday.
XPO has opened a 51,000-square-foot facility in Mesa, Arizona with 86 dock doors and more than 100 employees. The new terminal expands the company’s presence in the Phoenix market, where XPO already operates a freight assembly center. Demand has been increasing in the region, partly because of new industrial investments and increased trade across the border with Mexico.
The company also opened a 13,000-square-foot terminal in Cameron, Mo., about 50 miles north of Kansas City. The facility has 32 dock doors and over 30 employees. Its proximity to the junction of Interstate 35 and U.S. 36 puts it along major north-south and east-west freight corridors.
“These new service centers expand our presence in two important freight markets and are part of our strategy to invest in our network,” said Matt Carroll, president of XPO’s West Division. “We’ve expanded capacity where our customers need it most, positioning us to support their growth and provide the world-class service they depend on.”
Over the last five years XPO has added almost 35 new facilities, which has helped it increase its dock-door capacity by 15%. The company also agreed in 2023 to purchase 28 terminals from bankrupt Yellow Corp. in a $870 million deal.
Today, the carrier’s network has expanded to 300 terminals, providing direct coverage of 99% of U.S. ZIP codes, plus cross-border service to and from Canada and Mexico.
The expansion improves XPO’s density and geographic coverage in key freight markets. The carrier is increasing available capacity and service coverage by deploying infrastructure in high-demand corridors while providing additional opportunities for servicing high-yield local accounts and expanding its market presence.
