In a context of repositioning supply chains in Asia, Inchcape Shipping Services is accelerating its development in Indonesia. The group announces the opening of two new offices in Merak and Dumai, complementing its existing presence in Jakarta. Stated objective: to get closer to the areas where maritime operations related to energy, industry, and certain agricultural sectors are concentrated.
Both locations are strategic. Merak must cover several port points that handle varied cargoes, particularly for heavy and industrial activities. Dumai, on the other hand, is located in a major maritime corridor near the Strait of Malacca and is a key area for tanker and bulk traffic. Inchcape estimates that these openings could add about 150 calls per year to its operational scope.
In terms of services, the announced offering aims to be comprehensive: port agency, customs formalities, P&I matters, crew logistics, provisioning services, operational assistance, and representation. For shippers, freight forwarders, and charterers, this type of expansion meets a clear expectation: to gain local responsiveness, reduce administrative frictions, and secure execution at the port, especially when flows become strained or regulatory constraints evolve.
