Unilode Aviation Solutions has launched Super Sentinel, a new digital tracking solution aimed at giving the airfreight industry greater visibility over ULD movements and bringing it closer to eliminating the long-standing problem of lost or unreported units.
The company already deploys Bluetooth and LoRa long-range tags across its fleet, but says Super Sentinel adds a new layer of functionality by enabling tracking beyond Unilode’s fixed reader network. In practice, that means the company will be able to detect and locate lost or unreported ULDs virtually anywhere in the world.
The technology was developed in partnership with OnAsset Intelligence, a specialist in wireless monitoring and visibility devices used across land, sea and air transport.
Unilode said the solution offers piece-level tracking tailored to the needs of airlines and cargo operators and will be introduced progressively across its global fleet of more than 220,000 ULDs throughout 2026.
Chief executive Ross Marino described Super Sentinel as a major milestone in the company’s digital development, saying it expands Unilode’s ability to track lost and unreported ULDs beyond the limits of its existing reader infrastructure.
OnAsset Intelligence chief executive Adam Crossno said the project demonstrates how scalable digital tools can create measurable operational value on a global level. He added that the partnership with Unilode continues to push forward new standards in ULD and cargo visibility, recovery and intelligence, while also opening the door to more advanced digital capabilities in the future.
According to Unilode, its current digital ULD solutions are already delivering strong measurable benefits compared with non-digitised assets. The company said far fewer digitised ULDs go unreported and that loss rates have already been reduced to just 0.01%.
Super Sentinel is expected to improve those results even further. Unilode said the enhancement is projected to reduce unreported ULDs by more than 95%.
The system also complements the company’s wider digital ecosystem, which already includes real-time ULD tracking, digital serviceability reporting, an in-house customer portal and system integrations.
