Shanghai Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal (PACTL) has become the first air cargo terminal operator in mainland China to obtain the IATA Integrated Sustainability Program Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) certification.
The certification recognises the company’s structured approach to environmental management and sustainability within its air cargo operations.
PACTL, a German-Chinese joint venture founded in 1999, specialises in cargo handling at Shanghai Pudong International Airport and operates alongside its subsidiary PACTL West.
The Integrated Sustainability Program (ISP) was developed by IATA to help aviation stakeholders implement comprehensive sustainability frameworks.
It includes training, guidance and assessments across four core modules: environmental management, sustainable procurement, social responsibility and sustainability performance.
The IEnvA module specifically evaluates how environmental considerations are integrated into governance structures, operational controls and management processes.
PACTL said sustainability principles have long been embedded in its operations, including investments in photovoltaic energy systems, the adoption of electric forklifts, upgrades to energy-efficient lighting, and the implementation of paperless logistics processes.
The certification adds to the company’s growing portfolio of international accreditations, including several IATA CEIV certifications covering pharmaceuticals, lithium batteries, fresh products and live animals.
According to Xie Xingquan, IATA’s regional vice president for North Asia, PACTL’s achievement could encourage other airports and logistics stakeholders across the region to strengthen their sustainability efforts.
