Awery Aviation Software has become the first digital platform to integrate IATA’s CO2 Connect for Cargo, a tool designed to deliver standardized and accurate carbon emissions data for the air cargo industry.
The announcement was made on March 11 during the IATA World Cargo Symposium (WCS) currently taking place in Lima, Peru, from March 10 to 12.
By embedding the emissions calculator directly into its enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform, Awery enables users to access reliable, flight-specific carbon dioxide emissions data within their existing operational workflows.
Launched earlier this year, CO2 Connect for Cargo calculates emissions at shipment level using operational data provided by airlines. The system relies on inputs such as aircraft type-specific fuel burn, cargo load factors and passenger load factors to generate more accurate emissions estimates.
As of February 2026, more than 100 airlines — including dedicated cargo carriers — were contributing operational data to the CO2 Connect platform.
Vitaly Smilianets, founder and chief executive of Awery Aviation Software, said the integration represents an important step toward greater transparency in the sector.
“Integrating CO2 Connect for Cargo into the Awery ERP platform equips our customers with trusted, standardized emissions data directly within the systems they use every day,” he explained.
“Providing emissions data that reflects real operational performance is something the industry has needed for a long time, and we are proud to be the first platform to deliver this capability.”
Frederic Leger, IATA senior vice president for product and services, highlighted the broader impact of the initiative.
“With the introduction of IATA CO2 Connect for Cargo we are now able to provide per-shipment emissions data and support the expectations for greater transparency as airlines progress toward net-zero carbon emissions by 2050,” he said.
He added that CO2 Connect has already established itself as the only carbon calculator for air travel emissions based on operational data from more than 100 airlines, aligned with global standards including ISO14083.
Awery played a key role during the pilot phase of CO2 Connect for Cargo, working alongside forwarders and shippers to test the system and provide feedback before its industry rollout.
The company has also been an active supporter of IATA’s ONE Record data standard, advocating for improved transparency, interoperability and data quality across the air cargo ecosystem.
Awery’s chief experience officer Phaedra den Hertog is also participating in a panel discussion at WCS titled “From Data Silos to Insights: Leveraging Environmental Data for Smarter Decisions.”
Technology has been a central theme at this year’s World Cargo Symposium, held under the theme “Advancing Air Cargo in a Dynamic World.”
Discussions throughout the event have focused on the growing role of digitalisation, artificial intelligence and evolving geopolitical conditions in shaping the future of the air cargo industry.
