LATAM Airlines Group has been included once again in S&P Global’s Dow Jones Best-in-Class Chile and MILA 2026 sustainability indices, reinforcing its position as one of the leading performers in environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards across both national and regional rankings.
The airline was the only carrier featured in the MILA Pacific Alliance index for 2026, which covers Chile, Mexico, Peru and Colombia. It has also been ranked among the world’s best-performing airlines in sustainability, reaching first place in the Americas and fifth globally in a recent S&P Global assessment.
These rankings are based on S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA), which evaluates companies across criteria including climate strategy, risk management, human capital development and corporate governance.
“Rejoining these indices reflects how sustainability has become deeply embedded across our business management and core decision-making processes. In an industry where the challenge of decarbonisation is uniquely complex, this result provides vital momentum and underscores a consistent effort involving thousands of employees. It brings together advances in operational efficiency, fleet modernisation, the promotion of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), circularity in our processes, and a comprehensive vision of how we generate value in the region,” said Johanna Cabrera, Sustainability Manager at LATAM Airlines Group.
Within the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Chile 2026 index, LATAM is listed alongside leading companies across sectors such as banking, energy, retail, telecommunications, materials and transport. Regionally, its inclusion in the MILA index further highlights its leadership role in aviation sustainability across Latin America.
LATAM’s performance follows a series of recent recognitions, including being named one of the world’s top five airlines for sustainability earlier this year and receiving the “Industry Mover 2025” distinction, awarded to companies demonstrating the most significant year-on-year ESG improvements.
The group’s long-term sustainability strategy is centred on achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, built on four main pillars: fleet modernisation, operational efficiency, increased use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and strategic carbon offsetting initiatives.
In 2025 alone, LATAM integrated 26 next-generation aircraft into its fleet, delivering estimated fuel savings of between 15% and 20% per aircraft, according to manufacturer data. Since 2010, the airline has also implemented data-driven operational efficiency measures using artificial intelligence and continuous optimisation processes, which have collectively reduced approximately 6.5 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to the airline’s annual operations across Chile, Colombia and Ecuador combined.
LATAM has also offset more than 3 million tonnes of CO₂ since 2019, further reinforcing its climate commitments.
Along with emissions reduction the airline has also made great strides in circular economy initiatives, reducing single-use plastics by 97% across its operations, eliminating more than 1,700 tonnes of waste. Its “Avión Solidario” programme has also supported more than 50 regional initiatives by providing free transport for medical missions, environmental projects and disaster relief operations across the region.
