As the world marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, Aecon is remembering the 13 colleagues who lost their lives that day.
In a post shared on X, the company paid tribute to the employees who worked for Aecon Engineering Services’ legacy company, Washington Group International, which is now part of the Aecon family.
“Each year, on this day we pause to remember those who died, and especially the 13 friends and colleagues who were employed by Aecon Engineering Services’ legacy company, Washington Group International, now part of the Aecon family,” the company said.
The 13 colleagues were working on the 91st floor of the World Trade Center when the attacks occurred.
Aecon said their memory remains an important part of the company’s history, adding that their lives and contributions continue to have a lasting impact on the organization.
“As we honor their memory, we reflect on the lasting impact they had on our organization and the importance of never forgetting the lives lost that day,” the company wrote.
The Sept. 11 attacks claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people after hijacked aircraft were deliberately crashed into the World Trade Center’s twin towers, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
