Spartan Logistics is expanding its warehousing network with the acquisition of Allen Logistics, adding 100,000 square feet of capacity to its asset-based portfolio of more than 20 dry storage and food-grade facilities.
The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
The latest acquisition, located in Whitehouse, Ohio, strengthens Spartan Logistics’ presence in the Northwest Ohio market. The company now operates seven locations in the area and 11 across the state.
Following the deal, Spartan Logistics’ network spans approximately 4.5 million square feet across nine states in the Midwest and South. The company also maintains a significant presence at the South Carolina ports of Charleston and Savannah.
“Toledo has been a key market for Spartan for many years, and this acquisition represents another investment in our future here,” said Steve Harmon, CEO of Spartan Logistics.
Based in Columbus, Ohio, Spartan operates a fleet of approximately 50 tractors. Its transportation activities include local shuttle and regional freight services, as well as just-in-time delivery.
Beyond transportation, the company provides cross-docking, fulfillment and warehouse management services. Spartan Logistics also operates a real estate construction and brokerage division, allowing it to cover several areas of the logistics and supply chain market.
The acquisition will also bring a new group of employees and customers into Spartan’s operations.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to welcome a strong group of employees and customers to Spartan and build on the relationships and operations that have already been established,” Harmon said.
Why it matters
The acquisition of Allen Logistics increases Spartan Logistics’ warehouse capacity while further strengthening its regional service density across 11 Ohio locations.
The combination of warehousing capabilities with the company’s own truck fleet also reinforces its ability to provide integrated freight transportation, delivery and fulfillment services.
