Why Uber Freight says its scouting around the Rio Grande Valley

Uber Freight is accelerating its artificial intelligence strategy with the appointment of logistics technology executive Amir Pelleg as its new chief product officer, as the company continues expanding its AI-powered transportation management platform.

Pelleg joins Uber Freight after more than 25 years of experience leading product, engineering and operations teams. His career includes executive positions at Amazon, Convoy and Dandy, where he focused on developing technology solutions and scaling operational platforms.

Uber Freight said the appointment reflects its continued investment in technology aimed at helping customers make faster decisions, simplify supply chain operations and build more resilient transportation networks.

According to Pelleg, today’s supply chains are facing unprecedented complexity, but advances in artificial intelligence are creating new opportunities for logistics companies to improve operational visibility, speed and reliability.

“Transportation and logistics have been at the center of my career for more than a decade, and I’ve never been more excited about where this industry is headed,” Pelleg said in a company blog post.

He added that Uber Freight’s combination of transportation management capabilities, brokerage services, engineering expertise and operational knowledge gives the company a strong position to help customers manage freight networks in a more proactive way.

Based in San Francisco, Uber Technologies (NYSE: UBER) operates three major platforms: Uber for ride-hailing services, Uber Freight for logistics operations, and Uber Eats for food and goods delivery.

Pelleg said his approach to product development has always been guided by one principle: solving customer problems first rather than simply introducing new technology.

“The best products come from understanding how people actually work, where they’re losing time and what’s creating unnecessary complexity,” he said.

One of the biggest challenges facing modern supply chains, according to Pelleg, is data fragmentation. Information is often stored across disconnected systems and internal silos, preventing companies from gaining a complete view of their operations.

He believes artificial intelligence can help address this issue by connecting fragmented data sources, generating actionable insights and allowing companies to make faster and more confident decisions.

“The opportunity isn’t simply more technology, but the ability to turn fragmented data into a single, proactive network view,” Pelleg said.

Uber Freight’s decision to bring in an experienced logistics technology leader highlights the industry’s growing shift toward AI-driven transportation management platforms. These solutions are increasingly designed to improve shipment visibility, automate decision-making and strengthen freight networks facing rising complexity and uncertainty.
