Prime Minister Mark Carney is returning to Alberta to join Premier Danielle Smith in announcing a new initiative designed to speed up homebuilding across the province.
The announcement is scheduled to take place in Red Deer, where the two leaders are expected to unveil a joint program focused on increasing the pace of residential construction.
According to Carney’s itinerary, the visit will also include a tour of a housing development, a stop at a canola farm and meetings with local farmers.
Housing remains a central priority for the federal government as it works with provinces and territories to address housing shortages and improve affordability.
The Alberta announcement follows a federal commitment made earlier this week to work with the Northwest Territories government to deliver at least 560 affordable housing units.
