FRASER VALLEY – Construction is officially underway on the new $119.4 million Peardonville Road crossing, marking another major step in the ongoing expansion of Highway 1 through British Columbia’s Fraser Valley.
The project is part of the Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program and is being delivered by Emil Anderson Group, with funding provided in partnership with the City of Abbotsford, according to an announcement from the province.
The new crossing will replace the existing overpass and feature four lanes, protected bike lanes and sidewalks. The project will also include improvements to Peardonville Road and to the road connections located north and south of Highway 1.
As part of the work, approximately 1.6 kilometres of Highway 1 will be widened. The upgraded section will include new high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes, electric vehicle lanes and bus-on-shoulder lanes, according to the province.
The start of construction at Peardonville Road means that all segments of the Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program are now in active construction.
The new crossing is currently scheduled for completion in 2031.
