AGASSIZ, B.C. – The Province of British Columbia has awarded a $33 million major works contract to B.C. based Graham Infrastructure LP to rehabilitate Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge No. 1287 on Highway 9.
The project will address deterioration of the bridge’s structural steel and concrete, as well as improve drainage and extend the operational service life of the crossing by an estimated 50 years, the province said.
The rehabilitation program will consist of replacement of deck expansion joints, repairs to structural components, removal of corrosion and treatment of affected areas and improvements to the bridge drainage systems. Other upgrades will help protect the bridge and maintain its long-term serviceability, including a recoat of the structure.
Construction is due to start this month and take about three years to complete. Most of the work will be below the bridge, but some work on the bridge deck will require single lane alternating traffic.
The Agassiz-Rosedale Bridge carries close to 15,000 vehicles a day across the Fraser River, between Agassiz and Rosedale/Bridal Falls.
The bridge was built in 1956 and carries two lanes of Highway 9 between Highway 1 and Highway 7 and continues to be an important link for communities on both sides of the Fraser River.
