G2 Ocean, a leading breakbulk and project cargo shipping company headquartered in Norway, is taking bold steps toward sustainability by introducing biofuel-powered vessels into its fleet. The company, a joint venture between two Norwegian shipping companies, Gearbulk and Grieg Star, specializes in transporting forest products, steel, and heavy project cargo across the world.

The transition to biofuels comes as part of G2 Ocean’s wider environmental strategy to reduce its carbon emissions by 40% by 2030. Biofuels, which are made from renewable organic materials, offer a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to traditional marine fuels. G2 Ocean’s commitment to sustainability has been welcomed by its clients in industries such as construction and renewable energy, where reducing environmental impact is a priority.

In addition to biofuels, G2 Ocean is exploring digital solutions that optimize shipping routes and minimize fuel consumption. These efforts are part of the company’s broader ambition to lead the breakbulk shipping industry in terms of green practices, aligning with global regulations on emissions reduction and setting a benchmark for sustainable ocean cargo transportation.
